01 — The opportunity

A storytelling identity with room to grow beyond the screen.

A24 has built a reputation around distinctive, original storytelling — and a rare relationship with culture and niche audiences that most studios spend decades trying to manufacture. The brand doesn't just release films; it signals a way of seeing.

The opportunity identified here was to extend that identity beyond individual releases and into a sustained initiative: one that helps preserve and amplify the cultural storytelling traditions those stories are drawn from — traditions that are often underdocumented, underrepresented, or vulnerable to being lost.

02 — The strategic question

What if storytelling could preserve the stories that might otherwise disappear?

The concept asked how A24 could turn its cultural influence into a platform for preservation, participation, and long-term stakeholder value.

03 — The idea

Cut From the Culture.

A24 could partner with artists, historians, cultural organizations, and community leaders to document, support, and amplify performance traditions that are underrepresented or at risk of being lost — Indigenous oral performance, Black Southern monologue traditions, immigrant community theater, underground drag culture.

01

Document

Preserve stories, performances, and traditions through film and archival storytelling — from Indigenous oral performance and Black Southern monologue traditions to immigrant community theater and underground drag culture.

02

Support

Create meaningful opportunities and resources for the artists, historians, and cultural organizations who carry these traditions forward.

03

Amplify

Give audiences, educators, and communities new ways to encounter and engage with these traditions — on screen, in classrooms, and in the rooms where culture is made.

A proposed framework — not an existing A24 program.

04 — Why A24

Strategic extension, not generic CSR.

The idea works because it extends something A24 already understands: stories create cultural value. The concept moves that logic one step further.

From

Telling distinctive stories

To

Preserving the traditions and communities that shape them

Cultural value

Preserve and elevate performance traditions that are underdocumented, underrepresented, or vulnerable to being lost.

Brand value

Extend A24's storytelling identity from individual releases into a sustained cultural position.

Stakeholder value

Create meaningful visibility and engagement for artists, communities, audiences, educators, and investors.

Long-term value

Build a purpose platform that can exist beyond a single film release or campaign cycle.

Intended strategic value — presented as strategy, not proven results.

05 — Stakeholder strategy

Designed for more than consumers.

Purpose initiatives fail when they speak to one audience and report to another. Cut From the Culture was designed around the full stakeholder landscape — because different stakeholders require different forms of value and communication.

Artists
The performers and tradition-bearers whose work the initiative documents and supports. Value: resources, visibility, creative partnership.
Cultural leaders
The voices who give the work legitimacy and context. Value: authority over how traditions are represented.
Community organizations
The institutions where these traditions live. Value: sustained partnership, not one-off extraction.
Audiences
A24's existing cultural community, invited into traditions beyond the film slate. Value: discovery, participation, belonging.
Educators
The bridge between archive and curriculum. Value: material that makes living traditions teachable.
Investors
Stakeholders who increasingly evaluate purpose alongside performance. Value: evidence, not assertion.
A24 leadership
Visible C-suite commitment that makes purpose foundational rather than performative. Value: a platform the brand can stand behind for years.

Signature activation

Exclusive screenings and dialogue sessions with cultural leaders.

Rather than receiving only a corporate statement about purpose, investors and stakeholders could encounter the initiative's cultural work firsthand — in the room, with the communities it serves. Purpose becomes an experience, not a paragraph.

06 — Purpose needs proof

If purpose matters, it should be possible to see its impact.

Proposed tool · 01

Heritage & Impact Snapshot

A recurring, public view of the initiative's indicators:

  • Performances documented
  • Artists supported
  • Cultural partnerships established
  • Educational institutions engaging with the material
  • Audiences reached

Proposed tool · 02

Culture Equity Index

A proposed framework for evaluating A24's contribution to cultural preservation and stakeholder value over time — a structured measure of whether the platform is doing what it says.

Together, the two tools connect purpose to measurable value, and give leadership a way to commit publicly — making purpose foundational rather than performative.

Proposed strategic measurement concepts — not implemented by A24. No numerical results are claimed; the point is that the strategy considered accountability, not just storytelling.

07 — What I would build

From strategy to artifacts.

The strategy translates into a set of concept deliverables — professional-quality examples of the work this thinking produces.

01Concept deliverable

Campaign platform

Cut From the Culture — a named, ownable platform that frames preservation as an act of storytelling rather than philanthropy. Identity, language, and launch architecture.

02Concept deliverable

Stakeholder communication framework

How the initiative communicates value differently to artists, cultural leaders, community organizations, audiences, educators, investors, and leadership — because each stakeholder needs a different form of evidence.

03Proposed impact-report concept

Heritage & Impact Snapshot

A recurring, public view of the initiative's indicators — performances documented, artists supported, partnerships established, institutions engaged, audiences reached — so progress is visible rather than claimed.

04Proposed measurement framework

Culture Equity Index

A structured way to evaluate A24's contribution to cultural preservation and stakeholder value over time — turning purpose from a narrative into a measure.

05Concept deliverable

Cultural partnership framework

A structure for engaging artists, historians, and community organizations as long-term partners — with clear terms for consent, credit, and creative authority.

06Exclusive screening + cultural dialogue

Stakeholder experience

Invitation-only screenings and dialogue sessions with cultural leaders, where investors and stakeholders encounter the initiative's cultural work firsthand — rather than receiving a corporate statement about purpose.

08 — The strategic takeaway

"Purpose is more credible when it is connected to what a brand already does well, designed around the needs of its stakeholders, and supported by evidence of impact."

The value of this project was not simply the campaign idea. It was the strategic connection between brand identity, cultural need, stakeholder expectation, and measurable value — the same diagnostic discipline behind every engagement in this practice.

Strategic concept developed independently through graduate study at USC Annenberg. A24 is not a client; the concept was not adopted, funded, implemented, or endorsed by A24.
